Creating an Energy Efficient Home
Challenge
During the design stage of a large Tauranga home, the owner focused on reducing the energy consumption within the home; future-proofing it to ensure on-going energy-savings and achieving a complete waterproofing solution. As a result a warm roof was specified.
Solution
Viking's Warm Roof solution. This combination of membrane and rigid insulation panels meets both the solar reflectivity and thermal efficiency needs of the owner.
In fact, this Warm Roof system achieves higher R-values than its competitors.
It also requires no mechanical fasteners (which cause thermal bridging; thus reducing the return on the building owners' investment). Instead, the Viking Warm Roof solution uses a polyurethane foam-based adhesive system called F.A.S.T. Adhesive, which has; (i) very high wind uplift while fixing the polyiso board firmly to the substrate, and; (ii) insulation properties in itself while sealing the gaps between the board edges.
Solution
The waterproofing membrane applied to the roof was Viking Enviroclad - the pinnacle in roofing membrane waterproofing systems. This highly-reflective roofing solution directly contributes to the reduction in a building's cooling costs.
Additionally, Viking Enviroclad has 3.0m-wide x 30.4m-long sheets (minimal seams); high puncture resistance; heat-weldable technology (including a full system of weldable accessories) and is 100% recyclable at the end of its useable life. These provided additional benefits to the building owner, who initially wondered how detailing around the various penetrations such as air conditioning units and vents could be achieved.
Result
The Viking Warm Roof solution with Viking Enviroclad membrane offered the customer an effective solution in driving energy efficiency while ensuring a watertight finish.
The system was applied by a Viking Approved Applicator (with a Stage 3 licence), thus ensuring that a professional finish was achieved.
For total peace of mind, for projects 300m2 in size and over, the Viking Warm Roof solution can also be covered by the Viking Full System Warranty - a warranty covering both the materials and installation for 20-years in one document.
