Ohinewai Primary School
Challenge
Ohinewai School, just outside of Huntly, was faced with maintenance and rust issues with the long-run steel installed on the low pitched roofing areas. The time had come to re-roof some of the buildings and find a better long-term roofing solution.
Solution
Gisler Architects, who specialise in architectural services to the education sector, specified Viking Enviroclad membrane as the best solution for replacement of the school’s low pitched roof. The existing long run steel was removed and a layer of 17mm plywood was installed as the substrate upon which the membrane would be applied.
With on-going maintenance being minimised and rust being avoided by eliminating the steel roof, as well as the roof being watertight, the expectations of the school’s key stakeholders were exceeded.
Result
The buildings now have a watertight roofing solution that can withstand the elements, with little ongoing maintenance required. The client is very happy with the Enviroclad Membrane and during the post-installation inspection, commented on how their buildings inside temperatures had reduced to a more comfortable level during the summer. This is due to the reflective properties of the Enviroclad Membrane, which minimises the energy required, and therefore cost, to cool a building.
Tim Gisler, Director/Architect
“We chose this product because the wider rolls minimise joins and therefore the potential for leaks. The warranty supports this and is one we can trust. The Applicator was very thorough with checking the preparation and ensuring the main contractor had prepared the base structure correctly. When I turned up to site the Viking rep and Technical Specialist were on the job ensuring all was being done correctly. An observation – all the roofing applicators were happy in their work, ensuring a quality installation, despite the high temperatures.
A great job done with a great product!!”
