Floating Deck Systems

Viking Roofspec offers two floating deck systems: the Silca/Buzon and TreadTech/Buzon systems. Both systems enable a seamless integration of indoor-outdoor living when installed on membraned decks over living spaces or even if being used as a platform at ground level.

These cutting-edge solutions offer unprecedented versatility, durability, and ease of installation for homeowners, builders, architects, and landscaping specialists specifying tiles or timber decking surfaces.

Both systems have been meticulously engineered in New Zealand to meet the unique requirements of residential and commercial environments.

System Benefits:
  • A floating deck system (FDS) has the ability to hide unsightly services below an attractive deck surface
  • Being able to remove a deck's surface allows access to the membrane to check and/or clean the membrane
  • Temporary raised surfaces for exhibitions or shows can easily be erected and dismantled
  • Viking’s FDS solutions are resistant to ageing, poor weather conditions, UV light, almost all chemicals and are rot proof

Buzon Pedestals

Suitable for paver and timber decking finishes, the Silca and TreadTech systems are designed to integrate seamlessly with Viking Buzon Pedestals to form a complete floating deck solution, ensuring the exterior deck surface is supported at the same height as the interior floor level whilst still allowing rainfall to drain through to the substrate below. For the NZ Building Code’s current standards for E2 (external moisture), this needs to be a minimum of 100mm below the building’s interior floor slab level.

Viking Buzon Pedestals have both height (up to one metre high) and slope adjustment (up to 5% = 2.9 degrees)*, allowing for the substrate to slope away from the building, while the external deck surface emulates the interior floor level being perfectly flat.

(*the addition of a bottom-mounted slope corrector can double the adjustment to 10%)

Silca/Buzon System

Installed directly on top Buzon pedestals and engineered to handle high-traffic environments, the Silca system features a series of New Zealand-manufactured, load-bearing grates, constructed entirely from 100% recycled, UV-Stable Polymer. These durable grates clip together seamlessly to form a uniformly flat support structure that serves as the substrate for both tiled or paved floating decks and entertainment platforms in landscaped areas.

Complying with New Zealand Building Code clauses, structure (B1), durability (B2), and external moisture (E2), the Silca system offers exceptional versatility with its free-draining, permeable surface, making it ideal for outdoor decks/pool areas, where wet conditions and heavy use are constant.

TreadTech/Buzon System

The TreadTech system offers a sophisticated aluminium frame solution that supports the use of timber or composite planking, structural tiles or pavers. The system's intelligent design provides two distinct configuration options to accommodate varying project requirements and spatial constraints:

  • the two-dimensional low-profile option caters to projects with limited thresholds, making it ideal for situations with limited height available
  • the standard three-dimensional option features supports running at right angles, requiring greater height clearance but fewer pedestals, making it perfect for projects with more vertical space available.
